Urban environments continue to be transformed by human activities, resulting in novel and often unexpected opportunities for the interaction of wildlife with human infrastructure. Monkey Mart, a well-known convenience store located in the heart of a bustling city, has drawn significant attention due to its unique relationship with a group of urban monkeys. By conducting an observational study at Monkey Mart, this research aims to document and analyze the behavior of these monkeys in response to the urban environment they inhabit.


To conduct this research, observations were made over a span of six weeks, during which multiple visits to Monkey Mart Classroom Mart were carried out at different times of the day. Monkeys were observed from a safe distance to ensure minimal disturbance to their natural behavior. The observation period covered morning, afternoon, and evening hours to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the monkeys’ activities throughout the day.


Monkey Mart proved to be an intriguing location for studying the interactions between monkeys and the urban environment. The monkeys were observed using a variety of behaviors to navigate and exploit resources within the store. This brought about complex dynamics, as some monkeys appeared to grow comfortable with occasional human interactions, while others maintained their distance, displaying signs of inherent wariness.
